Bordeaux was a joint project with my fellow student, Mary Ashburn Mann.  Bordeaux was created for new homeowners, more specifically, a couple's first home together. We drew inspiration from the artist Carlos Cruz Diez. We were intrigued by his use of color and line to create shapes. Our target market hits people ranging in age from 28-35. With a newly purchased home, they are looking to create a unique and elegant living area. They have a recently combined income so they are willing to pay for quality home furnishings. Our collection consists of throw pillows and a throw blanket with several fabric samples created solely from cotton. The pillows range in price from $79- 89 and the throw is around $115. Our collection is entirely cotton for flexibility of the fiber. It has a soft hand, it can be easily washed, and versatile among all parts of the home. We have created prints, wovens, and knits for different home furnishing end uses. We incorporated several patterns that are cohesive as a whole. Through trend research, we created a color palette consisting of neutrals with a pop of color. Our consumers are willing to invest in quality items that they will be able to use for a while. With such a defined color palette, our consumers are able to move around their pieces throughout the house and pair them with other items they may have already had. While our intended application are pillows and throw blankets, our fabric can be used for a number of home furnishings including chairs, couches, comforters, and more because of the versatility of cotton.
