Melodious was inspired by the late art Style of Art Nouveau. A little background on the style of Art Nouveau is that it was a decorative style of art that flourished in the 1890s to 1920s throughout Europe and the United States. Overall, it was an attempt to create a new art style that did not solely recreate historical events. Designs within Art Nouveau are typically made up of floral patterns, elegant silhouettes, curves, and organic lines. This style was represented in both architecture and painting or drawings. Within my mood board, I included images of very famous architecture within the Art Nouveau period, which you can see on the right and left-hand side of the boards. From there I inserted photos of Alphonse Mucha’s artwork who was a very well-known artist within the movement. Typically, Mucha’s designs were centered around a beautiful woman with long flowing hair while being surrounded by decorative florals in calming shades of warm and neutral colors, which is what inspired my current color palette. Looking at my chosen colors, it reminded me of the popular style of cottagecore, which continued to influence the content that I put on my mood board and my textiles.

On my concept board, I have displayed all of my potential textiles for Melodious. I intend for the majority of my home decor items to be made up of cotton-rich fibers or fabrics. Nothing is set in stone for the end products of certain textiles, but I wanted to display my hopes for each one. I have a simple floral design that is going to be used for the wallpaper, five different textiles that I would like to turn into pillows, with the hopes of adding embellishments and tassels to certain ones, a floral and organic shaped filled blanket hanging on the wall that uses mostly all of the colors, an abstract carpet that could change in size or shape with black trim to ground everything, and finally two textiles to be used for the sofa and loveseat. Most people like a solid colored sofa to interchange the surrounding decor, so I attempted to make a textile that was almost muted compared to the others. The target market of Melodious is going to be women ranging in the age of early twenties to late thirties. The person who buys this collection is someone who has a mature established eye for home decor. They know what they want and have a love for an interpretation of a romantic agricultural life.
